Welcome

Welcome to follow my knitting needles! I'm Hanna, thirty-something knitter from Turku, Finland. I'm originally from Eastern Finland with strong karelian roots (that means I talk a lot and for strangers too). I have inherited the skill of knitting and crafting from my late father's side. My grandmother knitted a sock or two per day until she passed away. My father was a master in darning socks. But in the end, it was my Mother who taught me to knit at the age of 6. Since that until 2008 I knitted on and off. Around 2008 I found knitting forums and blogs and Ravelry and learned that there's other kind of yarns than Novita ones which fill up the shelves at hyper markets. It was like I had opened a fairytale box (my hubby would rather say Pandora's box).

As knitter (and person) I have two sides: I get interested very easily and when the inspiration strikes I HAVE TO start right away. There's no time to wait any yarn orders, so I collect quite a lot of yarn to my stash. In almost all colours and more speckled, the better. Usually there's not time to think neither make a swatch. On the other side (the work me) I'm very organised and I want things done in order and thoughtfully. Grey is the best colour (or speckled grey). So the best way I get anything finished and finished well is test knitting patterns. That's why most of my knits are tests knits. It's work, but fun work.

I knit almost everything. If I should choose favourite article, I'd say shawls, shlanket size multicoloured shawls. I knit socks, as I really need them. I wear knitted socks every day. Hats are another object I knit for need. Cardigans / sweaters are also part of my repertoire and at winter I wear one almost every day. I love knitting cables, lace, garter stitch, stockinette (esp. in the round), but most of all I enjoy knitting colourwork. That I knit way too seldom though.

Besides knitting my other passion of life is archives. My daytime profession is archivist / records manager. I work as records manager, but am archivist by heart. I'm also a mother for one, now 3 yrs old girl and wife. My family takes part to knitting hobby: Hubby is usually behind the camera pushing the button when we photograph my knitting projects. And our daughter just loves yarn. She can't wait for me to open the envelopes and then grabs all the yarns to big hug. We also often play "little yarn shop". Still I don't knit much for her. Almost everything is "too itchy" or "too tight". She loves yarn in skeins or balls most.
